Pharmaceuticals - In Hospital

Drugs prescribed and administered in hospitals by attending physicians.

Pharmaceuticals - Out of Hospital

(or in hospital when visit is solely for the administration of drugs)

Eligibility: Residents who are not eligable for coverage by a private employer plan or spousal plan must either purchase private insurance or RAMQ coverage.

Drugs which are prescribed by a physician or dentist and included in an official drug list established by the provincial government.

Residents are required to pay 28% co-insurance and a $100 annual deductible up to a maximum out-of-pocket expense of $839 per adult annually. Dependent children are not subject to the co-insurance or deductible.

Deterrent Fees:

Residents may be required to pay a deterrent fee if the cost of a prescribed drug is higher than the median price payable by the Province, and the resident refuses to accept a substituted identical medication which costs the same or less than the median price.

The deterrent fee will not exceed the difference between the amount chargeable for the drug furnished and the median price assumed by the Province.
